Pinterest Acquires Punchfork.com Recipe Site

2012 was a big year for Pinterest, with the social networking, image-sharing website hitting 10.4 million users and claiming the fastest growing social media title. The number of visitors to Pinterest has increased 2,702.2% since May 2011. Pinterest can add another badge to the list with the acquisition of the recipe-sharing website, Punchfork.com.
Through November, food pins accounted for 11.6% of the most popular pins on Pinterest, so the acquisition of a website devoted solely to recipes with food photos that make your mouth water is a logical step for the fast-growing web property.
Initially support for Punchfork will continue, but eventually the site, API and mobile apps will join the Pinterest team. Have no fear foodies, you’ll still be able to find food photos and recipes. The team will continue to focus on discovering and sharing new recipes and other interests – just on a new platform.
