Future Effects of Social Media Use

Mobile phones and the effects of social media use are changing the way we communicate and get information¹. Smartphones, IPad, tablet PCs and wireless technology have grown social media from an interesting curiosity to a fact of life.
2012 stats – A peek into Social Media’s future
- Adults are catching up to teens in social media use
- Out of the 6 Billion People on the planet, 4.8 billion have a mobile phone, while only 4.2 billion have a toothbrush.²
- 27% of all mobile phones in the world are Smartphones.³
- In a few short years, Earth will likely be home to more smartphones and tablets than human beings.¹ª
- 66% of online internet users consume social media. Out of that number, the breakdown between ages of users is 72% for adults ages 30-49 and 86% for teens and young adults ages 18-29 years old.²ª
- Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest are leading the Social Media flux with a combined 900 Million active users.³ª
Consumers across the globe now carry their cell phones everywhere they go accessing and increasing demand for social media sites. As Generation Y (young adults 18-29) becomes older and mobile devices become more available to the mass population, Generation Y social media use is likely to remain high. Add in the children of Generation Y who will likely participate in high levels of social media, and we’re looking at a future that will transform how we live, do business and interact with people all over the world through social media.
