5 Cool Facts about the Apple iPhone 6

The tech world is buzzing this week about Apple’s iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch announcement. The new iPhones will be on the market Sept. 19 and available for pre-order Sept. 12, while the much-anticipated Apple Watch is expected in early 2015, when it will certainly make its mark on the burgeoning wearable tech industry.
1.) First, let’s talk looks.
The iPhone 6 will feature a larger display on a thinner overall profile with a glass front that curves around the sides for a smoother look and more seamless transition. The iPhone 6 will be a mere 6.9 mm thick with a 4.7-inch screen, while the iPhone 6 Plus will be 7.1 mm thick with a 5.5-inch screen. Either option is thinner than the iPhone 5S, which was an already slim 7.6 mm. Users of the iPhone 6 Plus will be able to see their main screen and apps in landscape mode, which is nifty.
2.) Next, let’s talk pixels and camera.
The iPhone 6 screen is expected to dazzle the eyes with more than 1 million pixels, while the iPhone 6 Plus will feature a more than 2 million pixels. The iPhone 6 will feature the 8 megapixel, iSight camera with a new sensor and sophisticated Focus Pixels feature that the company said was previously only found in DSLR cameras. Oh, and let’s not forget the new Retina HD display designed to provide higher contrast, wider-angle viewing and improved polarizing for bright light.
3.) Now, let’s talk speed.
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will run on Apple’s A8 chip, which will reportedly provide 25% faster processing and 50% faster graphics. The iPhone 6 also has longer battery life, which is always a welcome improvement.
4.) Then there’s Apple Pay.
Tuesday’s event also included an announcement about a mobile payment system called Apple Pay that has been integrated into the snazzy new phones. Apple partnered with American Express, Master Card and Visa to allow card holders to easily make purchases using their iPhones, according to a Forbes live blogger.
5.) Last but not least, some bells and whistles.
The iPhone 6 will also have handy features like a barometer for detecting elevation, accelerometer to measure your distance for walking and running, and even a gyroscope to detect when you’re driving.
